My Archives: November 2005

A big load was lifted from my back (and wallet) last Friday. After several weeks of sweating out whether the buyer would be able to get financing, we finally made it to closing on the old house. Eleven years of my life there and many hours of sweating and cussing over repairs/renovations paid off with a check big enough to cover the bridge loan we took out on the new place. There'll be a little left over to start rebuilding the savings acounts and maybe enough for a generator at the new place to keep us powered through winter storms.
There's some sadness at saying farewell after so many years and memories but also an incredible relief at saying farewell to two mortgages (mortgage on old place and bridge loan.) I have a feeling the money will soon be eaten up by heating costs as winter moves in, so having some hefty bills disappear is a distinct pleasure.
Slow progress on the well situation this month. The backyard is now crossed by two access roads for drilling rigs, with three foot deep cuts through the hillside to make a level area for the huge truck. Still no word on a definite date for drilling but the head honcho has inspected the approach road and given his okay on it. I hope it gets done before the ground freezes, so I can make some small attempts at landscape repairs.
