Cool and cloudy, with little sun coming through the thick covering, the flat light doesn't promise much in the way of photo fun today. Seems like a fine time to slip into the darkroom and work on some of the shots from Seneca and make some contact sheets of Thursday's play. I was looking over the negs on the light box yesterday after work and a few of the Seneca 4x5s look quite promising. The IR roll from Thursday is going to be a challenge, though. Not sure if my developer went bad or it was just the effect of clouds dulling things but the negs look awfully flat and lifeless. I've printed worse with decent results, so I'll see what magic can be pulled out of them.
Tomorrow's looking like the same weather, if not worse. Might keep the crowds down at the Mount Washington Village Wine & Jazz Festival. I want to try swinging by there, as the good folks from Angelfall Studios will be there with a booth full of affordable art, including a few of my smaller alt-process works.
I've been poking around for a place to have some business cards made. I'd like to go local and help out some company here in town but I'm aso consoideriing using an online printing service. Any suggestions? Have you used one and been happy with quality, service and price?

Took Thursday off as a reward for too many long hours and weekends spent shackled to the scanner. A photographer from the D.C. area had expresssed an interest in learning pinhole photography, so we arranged a meet up at a state park halfway between us. After some time teaching her the simple basics of pinhole construction and mounting a brand new Coke can pinhole on her camera, we headed down the long muddy trail to the river.
The flat water was certainly less inspiring than the rushing waters and big rocks of Seneca. After a half hour or so of playing with the few ripples found as the slow moving river wound through the gravel banks, it became clear that any excitement for the day's shooting would have to come from somewhere else. Although the day was planned as a simple intro to pinhole, with mostly landscape/riverscape shooting,
Anya had an idea for a better subject.
The shoot was cut short by scheduling problems and the approach of some clouds which began blocking what light was able to stream through the trees. Too bad, but it did give me time to develop the film and be ready to slip into the darkroom Saturday morning. Pinhole and IR shots coming soon.

Though a good portion of the day was given over to housework and chores, I did manage some Van Dyke play.
