My Archives: February 2004

Friday, February 13, 2004

I'm all for anything that remotely resembles good news at this time of year. Even the tiniest break in the routine of too many hours at work each day is welcomed. I don't get many phone calls at work and generally don't like the interruption in my workflow but the one yesterday morning was a big exception.

My baby brother (40 years old, 6 foot 2 and 180 pounds, but still the baby of the family) is back in the States after a second tour of the Gulf region. He still has the long drive up I-95 before he's safely back with us, but that can't be anywhere as bad as tooling around downtown Baghdad.

Yesterday morning's alt-process class saw us printing the cliche verre negs we painted last week and playing around with photgram collages. Most of my results were too freeform for my tastes, although I was quite pleased by a popupmultiple tracing on acetate. I don't know that this technique will become part of my portfolio, but it was a fun adventure in breaking free from the usual methods of photography.

Is it worth printing later as a cyanotype? Maybe if I find some playtime this afternoon.
