08/04/2005 Entry: "light at end of tunnel"

While far from completely ready, the myriad repair and fixing up sort of chores are just about done. There is always a discouraging point just before you smooth out the bumps in the third coat of drywall mud or have the trim work half done when everything looks like crap and you can't envision ever being done much less how the final project will look. I think that corner was rounded last night. I still have a tremendous list of things to do but it is getting down to the purely cosmetic stuff now... a slew of pre-paint caulking, some final smoothing of the last touchups of drywall mud and then it will be paint city!

Of course, the basement is still a partial wreck, with a day's worth of cement work to be done on the crumbly foundation, but even that is just about licked. Only a couple of hours of trash hauling, one or two dump runs and a good sweeping left down there.

Fingers are crossed that the sellers of our new home can find a well driller who isn't booked up until October. Summer seems to be busy season for everyone. If it all works out, we are one well and two weeks away from getting out of the city.
