It's often the simplest things that mean the most to us.
Maybe it's the way the setting sun lends a new color to the clouds and then changes it as you watch.
Maybe it's the way that frost makes the view from your window into a delicate lacework world.
Maybe it's a child's laugh, a lover's smile or a friend's hug.
Sometimes it is a tradition.
A part of a season that you love and cherish...
and are denied.

Share the season,
send a card to build a tree of love.

Absolutely beautiful photographs of statues in the Cappella San Severo cemetery. A marble veil, carved so realistically that you can see through it.

Some nice pictures, good tips and some thoughts on lomography at Perrone's Photography page. Only one cemetery photo, though. ;-(

From the silly and almost useless scripting department:
One of the points mentioned in the Aol Technica site was the affliction or chat virus called "ToGgLe CaPs". Rather than ruin your eyes and your mind by having to suffer through such difficult to read drivel, just use DeToGgLe. Of course, the script only converts everything to lower case, it doesn't improve the content. ;-)

I used to work with a great group of folks as a volunteer in AOHell's web page development group, trying to explain such mysteries as why an image tag src attribute should point to the location of the file on the web server and not to a local drive. We really could have used a wonderful resource like Aol Technica: The internet moron's resource as a handy guide to aid in the creation and uploading (or should I say unleashing) of all the oh so "kewl" personal pages living in that money sucking pit masquerading as an easy to use path to the web.

Okay, yeah, I'm still a little bitter about the experience. On the downside, there were an incredible number of folks that had absotively no freaking clue... both "members" and perhaps more importantly, AOHell inhouse management.

On the other hand, it was a chance to work with some incredibly talented and caring people. It was also a chance to do what I feel the web and life should be about, to share the knowledge that you have, just as others have helped you along in your quests. Nothing beats the joy of watching that little light come on as someone finally grasps a new concept because you took the time to explain it to them.

So, the next time you want to scream at some poor newbie from AOHell, count to 10 and ask yourself if there is some little gem of internet use that you can pass along instead of a flame.

With the rising costs of a traditional burial, many are choosing to have the remains of their loved ones cremated. But what do you do with the ashes? There are some beautiful alternatives to the standard urn or box.

I'm generally all in favor of efforts to clean up cemeteries. I just hope that the folks in Derry, N.H. don't get carried away cleaning up the Forest Hill Cemetery. I certainly understand the desire to provide a safe working environment for the groundskeepers but lets not interfere too much with the way that people want to memorialize their loved ones. Call me an uncultured trailer trash slob but what is so terrible about a couple of pink plastic flamingos? This cemetery sounds like a pretty cool place to me.

Digital is looking more and more attractive to me, especially after drooling over some of the CoolStuff:2001 offerings from Computer World. It's going to have to wait until the credit card balance comes down from holiday heights, though. I have to say that while I'd love a nice 3 or 4 megapixel cam, my pocketbook would probably only stand for a PenCam.

You can always rely on the New York Daily News to come up with some good headlines...Grave Appeal in Quest To Save Cemetery tops a story about an historical groups efforts to block the sale and development of the Brinckerhoff Cemetery, an 18th-century plot with about 77 graves.

Walking across campus early this morning, I saw a simple but beautiful sight. The low morning sun grazed across the top of a dark green hedge against a red brick wall. The golden stream of light touched down upon a light frost covering the top of the hedge, leaving the lower sections and the brick in shadow. I have got to learn to keep my camera with me.

This is one of the prettiest angel statues I've seen. It's a popular style of statue. I haven't run across an example in this town yet but I hope I do. It's a nice one.

The history of the Bluffton Cemetery, in Bluffton, SC is covered in this article. They've put up a new fence along the front of the cemetery but the real story is the old fence that separates the cemetery into a "white" section and a "colored" section.

Nothing to do with my usual subject matter, just a little sample of some holiday lights here in Baltimore. I put this together to try to cheer up my buddy, Kaycee. She's a little low because she's stuck in the hospital for the holidays. They won't even let her have a little artificial tree, so she's making one out of all the Christmas cards that she gets. She's resourceful and never quits, though I'm sure the docs and nurses wish she'd slow down for a minute or two. So, if your lucky enough to be able to get out and about this holday season, share some of the spirit by sending her a card to help her tree of love grow. The snail address is:
