Saturday, October 07, 2000Have some great photos but no place to put them online? Looking for technical answers to a photographic problem? Or just like hanging out in a web site with all sorts of photo information? Then you're going to love photo.net.
Also uploaded some better scans of some infrared shots from Loudon Park, specifically the Lady with Frond and the Seated Lady. I like the look and feel of the infrared pictures but I hope that next time I will be able to get enlargements made with less trouble.

Strange searchs revisited...
Wednesday, October 04, 2000No more humming because you don't know the words. This site's got quite a few, indexed by artist and title. Of course the DeadHeads have had this for ages now...
Thank you, Jennifer, for some wonderfully in depth research on the Black Aggie statue. There is a lot to the story and you are the one to tell it.
Maggie may have been a bit early in her unofficial observance of the occasion but, yes, tomorrow is National Poetry Day.
Tuesday, October 03, 2000The film from the latest excursion to Western Cemetery has been processed and I'll have some shots up as soon as I find the scanning time. Unfortunately, the photo lab needs to upgrade their quality control a bit. There are some little chemical splotches sprinkled randomly across some of the prints. Nothing the Dust and Scratches filter can't clean up... but that's supposed to be for dust and scratch marks... not photo store foul ups. Whatever works.
Strange searches that ended up here.
Too short of a night plus too long of a day...

Eerie doesn't do these justice... the Marsden photo archive has some fantastic shots of spookie surroundings of all kinds.
The chilly weather these past few mornings has affected our pets' routine. In the summer months, the dog woould be up before dawn, poking me with her nose to be let out for her morning exercise. Now, with the onset of autumn, she sleeps through the alarm or, even worse, pokes me and paws me until I spring out of bed, at which point she hops up into my spot in bed and curls into a tight ball for a few more minutes of sleep, nestled in the warmth of the blankets. She's no longer eager to get outside and must be coaxed with kind words and a biscuit. Yes, she's spoiled.
On the way home from a meeting with a client yesterday morniing, I decided to take a shortcut straight through town, rather than following the Interstate. It didn't save me any time, as shortcuts never seem to do but it did take me past a nice cemetery. Western Cemetery, on Edmondson Avenue, has graves dating back to the mid 1800s. There were a number of fine statues, though many had suffered damage through the ravages of time or the hands of vandals. What was more fascinating, there were several interesting carvings on some of the earlier stones. Besides the usual willow and floral themes, there were some that I had not seen in any other area cemetery. A knight's helmet, perhaps part of the family crest, adorned one stone in the back of the lot. Another group of stones had a crossed axe motif and there were also several well done examples of an oak and acorn theme. I hope to have the pictures up in a week or two, so keep an eye out for new additions.
Why is it that food always tastes better if someone else cooks it? Not that I am a bad cook, to the contrary, I do a mean breaded turkey cutlet in a garlic, lemon and white wine sauce. Maybe it is the overlong exposure to the ingredients and aromas that the cook is exposed to during the process that dulls their appreciation for the meal. My wife and I both enjoy cooking and we both think that the other is the better cook. This works out rather nicely as there are never any disputes over who cooks dinner tonight.
