Why does the need to scratch places that cannot be reached except by really silly looking contortions coincide so perfectly with the webcam snapping another picture?

Wandered back to DevShed's PHP section today... haven't been there in a few weeks and they have some helpful new tutorials up and running. I really should be spending more time looking it over but it's the weekend. ;-)
I figure I've spent enough time researching on the web this week and can have a little fun instead. Spent too many hours pouring through databases doing company research for my communications management class. I'm not one for the business end of things but I'll say this for the class, instead of a dry lecture on business practices, we try to learn by doing. The course is structured so that at the end of the semester we will each have our own complete business plan for our entreprenurial startup communications company. Yep, one we can take to the bank and say, "Gimme money!", in slightly more reserved and businesslike tones of course.
One thing that I have noticed about most of the web design firms out there is that none of them seem to have defined their target market at all. Some companies that I have talked with during my research were quiet emphatic that they did not have a targeted market and wanted whatever business they could get, either a small "Mom and Pop" store or a Fortune 500 company. With the competition taking a shotgun approach to marketing, a web design shop that set out to work with a well defined niche market should kick serrious butt.

Photo tips from the New York Institute of Photography
Sort of a Photography for Dummies tech guide, this covers several topics in an easy to follow manner. Aimed at a general audience, it introduces some concepts that take up where your camera's owner's manual leaves off. Covering such topics as simple exposure settings, care and feeding of your camera, hyperfocal distance, and a nice intro to black and white photography, it is worth a read if you're a casual photographer who wants to improve your skills without being bored by a thousand myriad details.

Some fun times scheduled for the weekend... I used to be into rock climbing, until age and common sense intervened. I still manage to make the annual IMSAR (Ilchester Mountain Search and Rescue) Seneca Rocks Seafood Fest, held on the 4th weekend of September. It is a sort of potluck supper revolving aorund seafood. Bring your favorite fish dish. :)

I hope that the start of this semester slows down a bit, real soon. I've been scanning 500 to 700 pages a day to convert journal articles to PDF format so that the dear little students do not have to trek to the library to access the required readings for their courses. This leaves me pretty much exhausted at the end of the day, with not a great deal of energy to devote to my own studies, much less time to get out and gather some new photos for this site. This is the busiest semester so far. I long for the slow periods when I had a few minutes to spare and surf through some tutorials to improve my skills.
On the photography side, Maggie had a link to an oh so helpful Amateur-Photography Tips page. If you are serious about improving your own photos, this might not help much but it should bring a smile to your face.
