Busy day today... filled with minor obstacles to productivity and happiness, all overcome eventually to end the evening with a well filled belly and a good sort of tired feeling.

Woke up way too early for a weekend, courtesy of dog nose and tongue in my face announcing that the sun is up, so it must be time to go out. It was just as well, since I needed to get the car to the shop for some minor repairs before heading out to meet my brother and his wife to help them move. Minor repair completed, about an hour after estimated time but who ever believes in them anyway.

While closing the tailgate after tossing in a few things, I notice that there seems to be something missing from the car.
Yep.. some son of a.. has swiped both the front and rear license plates.
Oh, yeah, I just love city life. File a report with the police over the phone, cobble together a temporary tag out of some mounting board and head off to meet up with my brother.

He had originally reserved a 15 foot van to haul some stuff from a storage area to his new house but when he went to pick it up from the truck rental company, it had a flat tire. They offered him a larger truck at the same price, so we will be schlepping around today in an immense 24 footer. This is good in one sense, as it makes packing less of a challenge. We can just toss the stuff in the truck, no need to neatly and carefully play with furniture and belongings like large puzzle pieces, trying to cram the maximum amount of accumulated junk into a tiny truck. This thing was like a cavern.

Unfortunately, the large size of the truck made driving it a bit of a pain. The greatest pain was reserved for my brother's poor next door neighbor to be... The truck needed 13 feet of vertical clearance. The cable television feed wire to the neighbor's house was strung across the road at a bit less than 13 feet.

*Snap*

Right in the middle of his football game, the poor guy loses his cable television. :( Could have been worse... a power line or something equally as important or dangerous but it was still not the best way to meet one's new next door neighbor.

After working all day moving, we headed out to a local bar and grill for a delightful meal. As the wife is not a big fan of fish, at least on her dinner plate, I usually try to indulge my seafood cravings when we go out to eat. I had a lovely mahi-mahi filet, with a delicious lime and tequila butter sauce. Yummmm :)

So, I leave you, with full belly and good tired feeling. :)

Welcome to a new cemetery photographer! Becca has put together a nice start with a pretty cool menu for selecting the pictures. Congratulations on a fine page and hope to see more soon.

I swung by what I had hoped would be a new addition to cemetery collection, Parkwood Cemetery, but the markers there were all way too new to have anything worth even gettng out of the car for. Not one statue, not one handcarved stone to be seen. :-(

Leaving that volunteer gig took a bigger toll on my emotional and mental stability than I figured it would. I guess that is to be expected when severing ties with an activity that occupied way too many hours of my day. Maybe it is just the lingering effects of a case of burnout, but I just feel so drained today. I still keep in touch with my friends from the group and love them all like family. That has been a big help in dealing with this. I really should just let it go but keep probing at it, like poking my tongue in the hole left after a tooth is pulled.

Down Dallas way, Pandora has added a new section of the 100F cemetery as well as some pretty cool shots of a cemetery in Israel.

The 100F section has a number of excellent closeups of markers, accentuating the fine detail found in these old stones through a new adventure for Pandora, black and white photography. I think she's done a great job and the site is well worth a visit.

Some good news on the photo scene this weekend. I have been contemplating doing a few digitally altered images and had been searching for a place where I could get some shots of bats. I think their wing structure is pretty cool and it would fit nicely with some pictures that have been rattling around in my head. It turns out that there is a nature center just a mile down the road from Lorraine Park cemetery and they had a photography session yesterday. In addition to some good pics of a beautiful owl and a red tailed hawk, I was also able to get some pictures of some preserved bats. They did not have any live specimens but they were kind enough to remove the preserved ones from the display cases for easier photography.

I'm not sure when or even if I will be adding any of my doodlings to the site but I think I'll have some fun working on them.
