Running into a string of bad luck trying to get some reprints of the infrared photos from Loudon Park and Lorraine Park.

Step 1. Take negatives to photo lab outlet. Should be back in a week, I am told, and they will call when they are ready.

Step 2. (one and a half weeks later) Call photolab outlet to check on status of reprints. No answer.

Step 3. (two weeks) Call again... still no answer.
Drive by after work.
The store is totally dark, nothing at all inside, just a note on the front door that syas that the store is closed and any film may be picked up at their central store in the downtown area, which is open Monday - Friday, 8-5:30, and conveniently, Saturday from 9-3.

Step 4. (Saturday-today)
Drive downtown.
Drive in circles for twenty minutes looking for parking.
Walk to conveniently open from 9-3 on Saturdays central store only to find that they are actually quite inconveniently closed on Saturdays.

I am beginning to think that maybe learning how to develop and print my own photos doesn't seem all that far fetched. I'll still have to get downtown during the week and get my negatives back from these jokers. Maybe I can walk down after work and before school one evening. A brisk 18 block round trip in under an hour would be a good way to unwind from work and stretch my legs before class.

Well, they finally dumped their load of lies on us this past Wednesday.

My days with the web design help volunteer gig have come to an end. After 3 years of work with this group, I have called it quits. The people that I worked with are all wonderful and I love them all like family but the management was so incompetent that sticking around was not an option.

I learned quite a bit while with this group, both about the web and about people. I also learned quite a bit about myself. I learned that all the scheming and managerial incompetence in the world can best be answered with a resounding cry of "Screw off!" Expecting those locked into a game of corporate power pocket pool to change their ways and atone for their misdeeds is a foolish hope.

I'll miss the delightful folks that I worked with on a day to day basis, though. I hope that we can manage to keep in touch and will not drift apart. I realize that we must each go our own separate ways and that some loss of closeness is inevitable. Still, despite all that we have been through in the past few months, I remain an optimist where human nature is concerned and do hope that at least a few of the friendships that have been formed will last. I guess I'll always be a sucker that way.

Today is the day the news about the fate of my volunteer web design help group is supposed to hit. I've been checking my mail since before 7:00 a.m. but nothing yet. Not sure just why I do that, since I already know that the news is going to be bad and so full of lies and other bullshit that I won't know whether to laugh, scream in rage or cry. I just wish they'd get it over with.

Like millions of others, I am heading back to school on Tuesday. Not sure if I did the right thing by scheduling two classes for the same night but it will be an interesting experiment in terminal exhaustion. Working all day, then classes until 11:00 pm should make for one tired puppy. This is the first semester that I am not taking a production class of any sort, so I'll be spared hours immersed in graphics apps. Although I'll miss the creative exercise, I certainly have more than enough projects on the back burner already to keep me plenty busy.

So, updates to the site may slow down a bit come next week. I still hope to be able to get out to at least one new cemetery a month, at a minimum. If there is naything you'd like to see added here, let me know and I'll see what can be done.

I need a better connection here at home.... trying to juggle timing of web surfing, message board reading, AIM messages, blog uploading and webcam cycles to keep everything from freezing up for a few minutes. I get so spoiled at work that coming home to a dial-up modem just seems so damn slow. Hhhmmm... Linux box set up for IP masquerading with a DSL line?

Nah... just dreaming. I have neither the time, money or, quite honestly, the technical expertise to set it up....yet.

Feeling a little more positive today, thanks to a nice email from an old friend but a new visitor to these random ramblings. :)

Yuckie humid and rainy weather here, so I probably will not be getting out to prowl through any new cemeteries this weekend.

Besides the weather, I am really not in the mood for it. A wonderful group of people, with whom I have worked for the past few years, is being torn apart by some incredibly fouled up decisions by the idiots who claim to be "managing" things. Take one part smooothly running, hard working, knowledgable and experienced team of web geeks, mix in four parts of obnoxious incompetents who think they are really hot shit, decimate the leadership through deceit and treachery, sprinkle with more lies and omission of facts, stir this mix until old hands are disgusted.
